On January 24th, Red Hat took its Adopt an Academy program to San Antonio, Texas. CAST Tech is San Antonio's first hi-tech high school and is an in-district charter of the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). CAST Tech is a career-themed high school focused on coding, cyber security, gaming, entrepreneurship and more. The first class of 150 students began classes in Aug. 2017.

Red Hat consultants Jonny Rickard, Mike Holmes, Dino Arachchi, Dean Lystra and Bob Lawless hosted a brief presentation which taught a class of 18 students the basics of Red Hat Ansible Automation and led them in a workshop creating a short Ansible playbook that allowed the students to follow along and build their own playbooks throughout. The consultants also gave the students some tips in preparing for their Red Hat Certified Solution Architect exam and, of course, handed out Red Hat swag.

“The fun part was working with the students to solve their issues. For some it was their first time with Ansible, some had typos, some had permission issues. The students learned how to read the errors and figure out how to fix them. They are all gearing up to take their Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator exams so we gave them our take on how to prep and take the exams.”

-Bob Lawless, Senior Consultant, Red Hat

This event marks the third Red Hat consultant visit to the school in a single quarter. The Adopt an Academy Program gives Red Hat Associates the ability to engage with our Red Hat Academy Partners on a regular cadence, using their industry experience and technical expertise to better enable instructors and students across academic institutions in their communities.
