A fresh take on a core course in our Red Hat Enterprise Linux portfolio was introduced in late March 2016. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Diagnostics and Troubleshooting (RH342), a four day course, and a replacement and complete rewrite of our former "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Troubleshooting" (RH242) course which was available on Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 6.

This course provides system administrators with the tools and techniques they need to successfully diagnose and address issues with systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. You will learn how to approach the diagnosis of system problems in general and with various subsystems, and then examine, in a hands-on manner, a number of common and less-common issues including boot issues, hardware issues, storage issues, RPM issues, network issues, third-party application issues, security issues, and kernel issues.

Prove your skills and knowledge

To accompany this new course, we designed a new exam, Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Diagnostics and Troubleshooting exam (EX342).

By passing this 3-hour exam, individuals have demonstrated their skills, knowledge, and ability to analyze Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems for common issues that may cause degradation or loss of performance and either correct the issues or gather forensic information that can be passed along to a third party.

The exam leads to the Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Diagnostics and Troubleshooting, which may be used as one of the five certifications needed for Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) status.
